Welcome to The Manchester Academy of Photography, a professional training centre in the vibrant heart of Manchester’s Northern Quarter.
The Academy is the original photographic training school in Manchester. We provide introductory and advanced digital photography workshops; we also offer specialised courses in Travel, the Use of Light, Night Photography, and Documentary Photography.
Our photography courses have no more than 6 students per trainer, allowing plenty of time for some one to one tuition. All of our photographers are professionally trained teachers as well as being accomplished and passionate photographers.
Regardless of your ability – from a total beginner or a budding professional – The Manchester Academy of Photography has a course that will suit your needs.
Will I be out of my depth?
Certainly not! Whatever your level of photographic ability our approach is teaching practical skills in an enjoyable way rather than lecturing.
“Can I thank u for a fantastic weekend and for having the patience of a saint! I think u r a fantastic teacher & can't praise u highly enough (and no I've not been drinking!).”
“Hi Peter. Great weekend and great teacher. Couldn't have hoped to meet nicer people either and I hope we can create a bit of a photography support group here. Look forward to seeing you again soon.”
“Many thanks again for the course this weekend-it was fantastic and I cannot believe how much more confident I feel about using my camera! I woke up this morning wishing I was getting to spend the day studying photography all over again- but no such luck! Here I am trying to concentrate on my early childhood studies but just keep thinking about taking photos!”
“I just wanted to get in touch and let you know how much I enjoyed the introductory course that you ran over the weekend of 20th/21st November. I’ve been taking photos using small compact cameras for a few years (always using automatic settings!) and what I learnt over the weekend opened my eyes in terms of what is creatively possible using manual settings. I don’t have a Digital SLR but I do have a high end “bridge” camera (Canon SX30is) and still learnt a great deal from the course.”
"The two day intensive course was perfect for me as I work full time and couldn't commit to a longer course. It's amazing how much we all learned over two days! Small class sizes meant help was available any time you needed it, and spending most of the day out taking shots ensured we learned by practicing ourselves, not listening to a lecture."
“AN "ENLIGHTENING" EVENING: The Night Photography course was run on a bitterly cold November evening but the warmth of the welcome by Peter, Will and Pauline made everything seem okay.
The range of different techniques and varied subject matter made it all a very interesting and enjoyable evening.
The evening passed quickly despite the cold and was a valuable addition to knowledge previously gained.”
